Have been playing this course for 30 years. It’s a decent layout, and one of the only courses I walk in Birmingham. The fairways and greens are in better shape now than ever. Greens are still VERY slow, but a fun course overall. If a weekend or nice weather day, bring your patience because you’ll wait on most shots. Lots of beginners and slow players. Find a day that isn’t busy and it’s pretty good experience.

Course is horrific. Payed 50$ for 9 holes on a Friday. Half the bunkers are gone and just filled with grass. Horrible course management and Marshall’s. Trees have fallen on the course and have not been moved. At this price for golf in Birmingham go to bent brook or Ballantrae.

I play here fairly regularly and I like the course. It’s manageable for a hacker like me. There are a few of the staff that are not very friendly but that probably can be said at a number of places. My biggest issues are the carts they are terrible except for a few newer ones. My other issue is not keeping fresh water in coolers through out the day. Alabama summers are hot and on most occasions if you tee off late afternoon water will not be available in coolers. This is an Alabama State Park and water should be readily available all day. A cart person would be a nice addition especially during the summer especially with the grill closing at 4:00. If you tee off after 1:00 better bring enough water or something to make it through 18 holes.

The course is in excellent condition and have been playing there for years without any issues. The problem that I have is the dangerous condition they have created by not having any hydration opportunities on a day where the heat index was in the triple digits. It is my understanding the park director (not the pro-shop manager) has stopped the selling of any drinks or snacks from the pro-shop. The snack bar/grill closed at 4:00pm and some days not opened at all. All water coolers on the course were bone dry. You are not allowed to bring outside drinks onto the course. Heat stroke is a very serious condition. This seems to be a high liability situation for the park.

Nice public golf course. Reasonable rates. Also has driving range, large putting green and a chipping green. Save your golf receipts to get free admission to the State Park the next time you play golf. Select and book tee times online at the Oak Mountain web site. The clubhouse also has a grill for all park guests.
