When you're traveling on vacation and choose a golf course by information and pictures on the Internet only you run the risk of getting lucky or being disappointed. Today I was somewhere in between. Shining mountain Golf Course is a decent course that I was disappointed in some aspects and surprise that. Definitely cannot go wrong with the staff. Everybody that I ran into today or interacted with was super nice and really helpful. Pro shop is well stocked. The pluses to the golf course or the scenery and the well-kept fairways and greens. They're still trying to recover from ice damage on a couple of the greens but it wasn't very bad throughout. The minuses for me were no balls at the driving range to warm up and no paved cart paths. I was constantly dodging potholes on the cart path that they did have. This is a tight course in certain areas and you absolutely positively have to keep your ball straight. If not you're going to be up on the side of the mountain. It also has very tall rough and if you get off the fairway you can easily walk past your ball 3,4,5 times before you find it. I definitely enjoyed myself because it can be typically frustrating when you're playing at course by yourself that you know nothing about. I'm glad I chose it and I would recommend playing the course if you're in the area. It was easily 10 to 14° cooler up at the course and it was done at my hotel thank you shining mountain Golf Course for your friendliness.

THIS COURSE IS CART PATH ONLY NOW! I AM UPDATING THIS REVIEW. I am giving this review and update due to it being cart path only. This course does have amazing views, and small crowds. But I will never play 18 here again because of the fact that it is cart path only. This is not a flat course with easy access to your struck ball. You have to hike to get to your ball if you do not hit it next to the cart path. I find it absurd that it is cart path only. It never was for the 20 years before this that I played it. If I want to hike the mountain I will go hike the mountain.

Had an amazing time at shining mountain played some solid golf in beautiful scenery (deer/elk hang out on the course even). The staff was also perfect and friendly. Even got to play trivia in the dining room/bar after my round of golf (Thursdays only for trivia I think). Would recommend.

Tough, challenging course! Great mountain views and very friendly staff. Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because EVERY HOLE is cart path only so makes for a longer round of golf. So bring your walking shoes, you will get your steps in! Aside from that, you will be challenged on this puppy (no dogs were hurt during this round of golf..). I lost several sleeves during my two days and two rounds. My advice, go early and grab a bucket of range balls, and when you are done warming up, use the range balls to play your round. People lose SO MANY GOLF BALLS playing this course, they have the BEST selection of range balls I have ever seen! So use them and keep your ProV's tucked away! This one was very challenging but well worth it.

First of all, the setting for this course is stunning. Mountains, forest and valleys. Fairways and greens in great condition. Friendly employees. Now with that said, this is not a $70 for 18 holes place. They have a monopoly here because it’s the only course in Woodland Park. Cart path only all day every day is one negative. Signage on the course between holes is another. Paper signs with very small font pointing to tee boxes? This was my first time playing this course and I made wrong turns 3 times due to the lack of and or poorly placed signs. The all dirt cart paths are in poor condition throughout and in some locations quite hazardous because of steep grades, rutted side hill slants with little traction even with very slow speeds. I know a lot of people consume alcohol when playing golf and may get a little careless when driving the carts. If I was the owner, these conditions would be a major red flag to be addressed ASAP. This seems to be a lawsuit waiting to happen. They need to step up their game and invest some more money in this place to make it a $70 green fee kind of place.
