It was a great 18-hole course. Plenty of woods and trees to make it a challenging course, but also a few holes where you could let it rip! I appreciated the practice putting area by hole one to help get you warmed up. Plenty of parking.

A lot of fun on this coirse. Good signs and easy to navigate. Very treed which provides shade and makes it a nice walk, but also added obstacles. Most holes are fairly srraight. It gets humid and bug spray is recommended. If you stray off fairways, watch the disc because it can be a hunt if you don't.

Challenging course with a nice variety of shot shapes. There is some good elevation change on some holes and the trees are great at forcing certain lines.

One of my favorites in the area. Always nice to play with another person here to have an extra set of eyes for some of the tougher holes.

I first played Southwoods as a 9-hole course, at the start of the pandemic. The course had its charm then, but the upkeep wasn't there. It was always sort of a wildcard course. This 18-hole layout update is something else. You can tell a ton of thought and work went into it. The layout (at the time of this review) makes sense. Directional arrows in the baskets are a nice touch. Latest setup is the best yet, and hole 18 at 500-foot range is much more manageable. I hope they keep that standard versus 800+ foot layout. The course is well maintained. This is easily a top 5 Central Iowa course as long as it stays that way. Pro-tip: Wear good shoes, pants, and bring some water with you. And maybe a few expendable discs. Be prepared and you'll have a good time. Also: If you're new to disc golf, I'd recommend getting some rounds in at other fun and less challenging courses before you attempt Southwoods to fully appreciate it. All in all: The new Southwoods is a great addition to the Des Moines area disc golf scene. Cheers!
