New London Tech Disc Golf Course

New London Tech DGC absolutely hates me. That’s ok though, because I absolutely love this course! When I was getting close to 100 courses played, I knew I had to make my 100th course something special. I originally had plans to play a different course before I found out that there was a tournament there that day. I was sad to miss out on my original plan, but it was also a blessing in disguise, because I changed my plans to play New London Tech DGC. Firstly, let me be clear by saying that this course is WAAAY outside of my skill level as a disc golfer. I am a very AM disc golfer who focuses on the fun of disc golf and promotion of disc golf rather than trying to be “good” at disc golf. So if you are looking for a review of a professional or more skilled disc golfer, feel free to skip my review and move on to the next one. If you are a more casual and “in it for the fun” type of disc golfer like myself, boy is this the review for you. I’ll start off by saying that this course is an absolute beast! Of course, I knew what I was getting into before I drove the 4+ hrs to get to the course, but what I did not expect was how much fun I would have trying to navigate these fairways. This is absolutely the most challenging disc golf I have ever played, but it is also the best course I have ever played. Please understand that I’m not saying that this is my favorite course I have ever played, but it is 100% the best course I have ever played. The difference for me is that my favorite course (Harmon Hills) is one that I have played over and over and will continue to play over and over. This is the type of course that I am only going to play a handful of times in my life, because I honestly do not have the distance and skill it takes to play this course frequently. That is in NO WAY speaking negatively about the course. This course is absolutely impeccable. There are long open fairways and long wooded fairways. There are holes where you tee from the woods out into the open, as well as holes where you tee from the open into the woods. There are uphill holes and downhill holes. There are holes that play to the right, holes that play to the left, and holes that make multiple turns in the fairway. I could go on and on with this list but I can make this review much more digestible by saying that this course literally has everything that a disc golf course needs to offer. Nearly every single hole on this course requires placement golf. There are critical landing zones on most of the holes. The fairways are fair but also challenging at the same time. If your release angles and distance control are off on the day you play this course, you are going to have a very rough round. If you don’t believe me, just know that I took an eleven on one hole. That’s not exactly what you want in disc golf. Overall, I was ridiculously impressed with the condition of the course from the signage and tees to the actual play of the course itself. I did play the pro tees during my visit because I felt like I couldn’t experience New London Tech DGC without playing the full long layout that you will see on the pro tour. I will say, if I get the chance to go back to this course, I will play the short tees first to re-familiarize myself with the fairways. After that, I will stay the night somewhere near the area and get some much needed rest before I go back the next day to take on the full long tees layout again. This course will take you hours to play, it will challenge every single skill you possess, and it will wear you out physically, but it is absolutely worth the trip! Paul McBeth and the crew that designed and installed this course did an excellent job and if you are anywhere near the area, this is a must play! Within the first few holes, you will be able to see the skill level that the touring pros are playing at. In conclusion, this course is absolutely amazing, and I will definitely return! This course is amazing. I live in Dallas and I have flown out to Lynchburg three separate times just to play this iconic course with friends. I can’t wait for the 2024 World Championship to showcase this gem so more people can be aware of how awesome this place is. One of a kind. Worth the trip. Lynchburg is a fun little town too that is worth exploring while you are there as well as Bedford County where the course is located.

This was a beautiful course, but very long, so come prepared with water, good hiking boots, and mosquito spray.

Wow, you will get your steps in on this course (3.78 miles for me). A few holes have easier tee positions than the pro layout, but a beautiful course no matter how you approach it. Great signage and fairways made it really easy for me to follow where the next hole was, where out of bounds was, and and where the basket was (even when the basket was 1200+ feet away 🥏).
