I came with my family to play at the driving range and have never felt as unwelcome as Stan made us feel. Literally laughed at our face when we asked about The driving range and when we asked him why he was laughing at us exclaimed “whatever” and walked away. I will never be coming back and will find another course to start taking lessons. Hope he’s more welcoming to other newcomers because he made my first golfing experience a flop.

Algonkian Golf Course. Par 72. 6600 from the whites. 6900 from the blues. $45 with a cart on a hot deal. (Thanks future father in law for the round). Here are some of my thoughts that come to mind after playing this course today. This was the best conditioned/groomed/manicured PUBLIC course I’ve ever played. The course winds its way around and through a flood plain/park above the Potomac. Incredible drainage considering the summer rains the last few days. Groves and stands of oaks, maples, elms, hickories, and spruces lined every fairway. The front 9 is extremely flat with a few doglegs. Nothing too crazy. Just excellent course conditioning and some brutal rough. Tee boxes you’d dream about. I saw another review regarding the Tee Boxes not being flat. That's couldn't be farther from the truth. Overseeded grass. I don’t know what the superintendent is putting in the ground but I was walking on air all day. A part of me is legit concerned about the chemicals flowing into the Potomac through the water table. Anyway, front 9 was good. Nothing to rave about design wise.. The rough is the courses main defense. Bunkers barely came into play just because the rough slowed down your balls and they certainly looked hard packed. Back 9 is where the course really shined. The fairway cambered ever so slightly and then evened out. Gentle dips and creeks crossed the fairway forcing you to either go for the raised green or lay up. Often times you were hitting over the native grasses and if your tee shot went in the rough, you were going to be looking for quite a minute. The greens were some of the easiest I’ve ever played with nothing interesting or too extreme. The course is a great example of how a golf course can be an extension of the land. Nothing artificial. Just towering mature tree lined fairways with the occasional evergreen. Golden hour was a real treat.. I certainly enjoyed the wildlife as well. There was ample water provided. Practice facilities were excellent. Driving range was small but that's not a big deal. Overall, I'd highly recommend stopping by. Great value and will likely play it again when my travels bring me to NoVA.

My “home” course where I play a lot. Grounds grew has done a great job keeping this course from drying out with the recent heat. Solid pricing for a public course. Other courses charge 100+ for a round. Only recommendations is spreading out tee times a bit more as it can get backed up and Marshals should be out more speeding up slow play from some of the groups. All in all, great course.

Nice way to spend an afternoon, friendly hosts. In September, you can't pay until 410 pm for a 420 twilight rate start time. But, you can buy a large bucket of balls for 10 bucks. I just prefer to sit on the bench and watch people hit em, that tires me out enough.

This course will seriously test your driver. It's long!! Fairways are good and greens are in great shape.even though they were aired recently, Staff is friendly. There is also a solid driving range, a chipping and putting rings. Great place!!
