It’s been 5 years since I reviewed Dicks Serramonte. We go from 3 to 2 stars. The golf section is neat and organized, but it used to be full of products like golf bags and carts. Now you could drive an electric golf cart through the area without hitting the golf mannequins. Putter selection is a joke. There used to be double the number of putter brands along the wall. There are no practice balls to try a putter with. Five years ago you could actually use the two golf fitting rooms to hit some 7 irons. Now one is used as storage for merchandise. A number of products like gloves shoes don’t have prices on the packaging so you have to hunt down a sales associate…if you can find one. Dicks needs to install scanners so we can check prices ourselves. Overall, this is the typical downward cycle for big box retail. They try to save on labor cost by having fewer people help, reduce product selection to minimize unsold inventory but end up losing customers who can find a better selection and service elsewhere. Sales go down resulting in more cost cutting and product sku rationalization. Rinse and repeat.

Disappointing Experience Due to Lack of Pricing Transparency I recently visited Dick’s Sporting Goods to purchase an air horn, but unfortunately, the product didn’t have any price displayed—neither on the shelf nor on the item itself. To make matters worse, there were no price scanners or any other way to check the cost within the store. This lack of transparency is not only frustrating for customers, but it also puts the store in violation of California’s Business and Professions Code Section 12024.2, which requires that retail stores clearly display pricing on items. Failing to do so makes it impossible for customers to make informed purchasing decisions, and, in this case, I ended up walking out without buying anything. Dick’s Sporting Goods could significantly improve the customer experience by ensuring all items are properly labeled with prices, as required by law, or by providing easy-to-use scanners for price checks. It’s a basic expectation for any retail store, and it’s surprising that such a well-known chain would neglect something so fundamental.

Sold me a broken kayak. Found out on first day on water. Had to be rescued by sf fire department. Would not accept return of faulty kayak.

They unfortunately did not have the shoes I wanted in my size, but the staff was so nice to us and even recommended another store to visit to find the shoes.
